Hi Ximmy,

With one small step, a private company achieved the first U.S. touchdown on the moon in 50 years. When happy news happens, we have to celebrate it!  I want to find evidence that, yes, sometimes, we can have nice things!

And, what’s a thinker like me going to do?  Think, of course.  This strange little/big event happened all in one moment. One.  Yes, there were years of preparation, undoubtedly, on top of hundreds (?) of years of science, going back to maybe Galileo, and other scientists that one of my brainiac sisters could tell you about.  Ultimately, though, the landing on the moon - the actual event that made the news - happened in a millisecond, when that spacecraft latched onto the surface of the moon.  (I have no idea if it’s even called a “spacecraft,” but you get the picture.)  It was a moment.

And that’s just a big moment.  Imagine the little moments.  For example, on a hot summer vacation day, playing in the car with your sisters, where one of you is driving, the smallest one is wearing her seatbelt for fun, and it all gets captured on film (the real kind, not digital). It’s a moment.

Maybe you do this too:  you chase the big moments, the landing on the moon kind of moments.  And, in that process, it’s easy to skip over the little ones, and forget just how meaningful they can be.

But looking back now, all these years later, at this picture of me and my sisters, I’ll be honest - I think I’m getting the same hit of oxytocin and dopamine, or whatever these chemicals are called (see above, not a scientist) - the same feeling from this picture here, as I probably would if I landed a friggin spaceship on the moon.  Ok, so I’ve never actually landed a spaceship on the moon, but looking at this picture feels pret-ty amazing.  Just finished a song in 15 minutes good.  Just played a killer show good.  I’m surprised, but it’s true.

So, my dear, what are your little moments?  What if they are happening right now?

Love always,

Lauren

PS - SO EXCITED that so many of you are coming to my show in LA Friday March 1, including family from Buffalo! Seriously. I LOVE YOU.
